Gig review: Hellfire Festival @ Islington Academy - 22/02/09
(alan@rockmatrix.co.uk)
Having been at Heathrow on Friday and Judas Priest on Saturday I could only make the final day of the first Hellfire Festival. It was a shame in some ways as I missed Exodus, Overkill, Gama Bomb, Panic Cell, Firewind etc. You get the idea. Still Sunday boasted some fine bands, especially of the young British variety.rnrnThe first band on the main stage...

Gig review: Devildriver + Behemoth @ Garage - 16/10/09
(alan@rockmatrix.co.uk)
The gleaming new Garage (or Relentless Garage if you can be bothered to say the sponsors name at whatever venue you go to) is actually a vast improvement on the dark and dank shell the old Garage ended up being. Only a half hour set...

Gig review: Arch Enemy + Grand Magus @ Forum, Kentish Town - 27/11/10
(alan@rockmatrix.co.uk)
Freezing nights in London are never welcome, especially when combined with yet another venue which seems to do all it can to mess up the sound of the bands. Fortunately the 4 acts on the bill tonight at the Forum are good enough to rise above such annoying distractions.rnrnCHTHONIC (7/10) have at times been compared to Cradle of Filth and it's not hard...

Festival review: Download @ Donington Park - 10-12/06/11
(alan@rockmatrix.co.uk)
With the Sonisphere and High Voltage festivals picking off bands there was always going to be a point where Download would suffer. From the offset this Download festival line-up always looked to be a slightly weaker proposition than previous years but that didn't stop over fifty thousand people making their way to the holy Mecca that is Donington Park.
