Gig review: Band Quest Kent Metal Heat 4 @ Red Lion - 26/02/10
(ccman_666@hotmail.com)
After seeing such a close call between Subversi0n last week, it was suprising to see an even closer call this week, demonstrating that there really is an overflowing abundance of talented metal in the area.rnrnInto Exile (9/10) stormed up first and let rip a roaring set of modern thrash tracks. The drummer played complex, uncompromising beats and the...

Gig review: Band Quest Kent Metal Semi 2 @ Red Lion - 23/04/10
(ccman_666@hotmail.com)
The Band Quest pressure is certainly on, now that the metal semi-finals have come to the Red Lion. It's been a while since the first band of the night has played to a full room, but tonight was a good night for Training Icarus (9/10), unleashing their exotic sounding set upon the crowd. The singer returned to the venue with more confidence, bantering with...

Gig review: Band Quest Kent Metal Final @ Red Lion - 30/05/10
(alan@rockmatrix.co.uk)
It was only a year ago when Snakebite stormed to the Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses Kent title with Denounce taking the overall Band Quest honours. A year can be a long time though and since then some of the local acts had split, fallen into a state of comatose or simply moved on.rnrnWhile Falling Empire opened up last years final with a ferocious set of...

Gig review: Blaze Bayley @ Red Lion - 02/10/10
(alan@rockmatrix.co.uk)
Unfortunately it is something of a rarity to have larger acts make their way to North Kent, although the likes of Panic Cell, Orange Goblin, The Rotted and Raging Speedhorn have all made the trip in the past five or so years. Maybe it would be greedy to expect anything more with London a mere hour away but there is nothing like having these bigger bands...

Gig review: Guardians of Andromeda @ Bull n Vic, Dartford - 18/10/10
(alan@rockmatrix.co.uk)
Power metal can be a tough nut to crack. A half arsed attempt can look and sound plain silly. It is only the bands who really have the material that can stand confidently on the mountains of metal without the threat of a landslide. The Guardians of Andromeda have no such problems. Anyone who has been lucky enough to hear their debut album 'Light Years...

Gig review: Femme Fatal Friday @ Dirty South, Lewisham - 12/11/10
(alan@rockmatrix.co.uk)
Some people may question the point of having a line-up consisting of only female fronted acts but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter as long as there is enough quality and on this occasion there was plenty. Original headliners, London hard rocker SHUSH had to pull out but the five remaining acts ensured this was to be a fine night of live...

Gig review: TesseracT + Subversion Album Launch @ Underworld, Camden - 14/12/10
(ccman_666@hotmail.com)
Camden Underworld is a venue synonymous with metal bands on the rise and tonight these aren't your average unsigned artists. A highly anticipated album release and a band returning to Britain from Devin Townsend's side, not to mention an array of even fresher meat, set this up to be a tasty evening.rnrnHaving seen epic-metallers Training Icarus (8/10)...

Gig review: Metal 2 The Masses Kent Heat 1 @ Bull n Vic, Dartford - 07/02/11
(alan@rockmatrix.co.uk)
Festival fever really starts to hit home in February each year when the line-ups begin to fill up quicker and quicker, especially when Bloodstock announces the likes of metal titans Morbid Angel, At The Gates, Napalm Death, Nevermore and Exodus. It drives home the fact that Metal 2 The Masses is about to start again. Zocalo and Splintered Soul enjoyed the...

Gig review: Kent Metal 2 The Masses Final @ Beer Cart Arms, Canterbury + Bull n Vic, Dartford - 29/05/11
(alan@rockmatrix.co.uk)
A final in 2 different venues on the same day? Madness surely? Well not if you are one of the bands who reached the final and want the best opportunity to play to your own crowd. This extension of the 'local gig' means the air bristles with excitement for most of the day as 2 packed venues for the most part showcase the best of what Kent can offer...

Festival review: Bloodstock 2011 @ Catton Hall, Derby - 11-14/08/11
(alan@rockmatrix.co.uk)
After the tremendous affair that was last years Bloodstock festival there was much anticipation for this year's metal jamboree. One of the things Bloodstock prides itself on is booking both top international artists which other festivals continue to ignore and new bands from around the UK which, along with the fantastic support of the fans, helps give...
